There has been rising pressure on Japan's lower house chief to explain his questionable ties to the Unification Church, and on Thursday, he finally did so.

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Hiroyuki Hosoda, released a statement in which he admitted to speaking at three religiously-affiliated events in 2018 and 2019.
