The head of Japan's lower house has promised to clarify the government's ties to the Unification Church

After opposition parties in Japan's Diet demanded an explanation from lower house chief Hiroyuki Hosoda on Thursday, Hosoda stated his willingness to do so.

Leader of the biggest opposition party in Japan, Kenta Izumi, called for an extraordinary session of parliament on Wednesday to demand that Hosoda, the 78-year-old speaker of the House of Representatives, explain his ties with the religious group in greater detail.
