JAPAN GOVT. REPORTS A 1.0 PERCENT DROP IN THE DEC. CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

• Japan govt. reports a 1.0 percent drop in the Dec. consumer price index.

• In December, electricity bills fell 7.9 percent and gas bills at 9.5 percent.
