Following the EU's coal sanctions on Russia, Germany is grappling with oil and gas

For some months, several German power plant owners have been prepared for the sanctions imposed last week. They said it was due to suspected Russian behaviour.

On April 7, late in the evening, the European Union imposed the fifth package of sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine. Aside from penalising individuals and limiting ships, the EU's package includes a ban on Russian coal imports beginning in August.
