Evidence from a mouse study suggests that statins, especially at high doses, may have an adverse effect on bone health.

The consequences of increased dosing with statins, medications that help reduce cholesterol, on bone health were the focus of a recent study. Female mice had their ovaries surgically removed to mimic adult statin users, and they were fed a high-fat diet to mimic human statin users. For 5.5 months, half of the mice received a high dose of simvastatin. Findings from this study in mice suggested that taking a lot of statins could damage bone tiss....
