Emergence of Reliance Jio in India led to Airtel and Vodafone Idea to face crisis

India currently has the world's lowest call and data rates, and there is hyper-competition among mega-telecom operators. However, in the state, this was not always the case, as much of this can be tracked down back to a few times in the history of the telecom sector. There is also a good possibility the state will head for another such moment, one that could transform a hyper-competitive market into a carrier monopoly with Reliance Jio.
