In the rural setting of Hirosaki, Japan, Yoshitomo Nara grew up alone, where he could communicate better with animals, without words, than with men. He was a rather lonely, solitary latchkey kid with working parents, two brothers who were 10 years older than him and no other kids around, who ended up playing by himself for the most part and had a lot of fun doing so.
