Wildfire doubled the greenhouse gas emissions from Scotland

A massive wildfire in the far north of the peatland in May doubled the greenhouse gas emissions from Scotland for the six days it burned, a study estimated.

In the Flow Region, which extends through Caithness and Sutherland, some 22 square miles (5,700 hectares) of blanket bog are affected.

As a result, 700,000 tons of CO2 equivalent were released into the atmosphere as a part of the WWF Scotland report.
