It's been for half a century Washington DC's rhythmic African American underbelly, as culturally important as New Orleans jazz, Nashville country music, or Memphis rock'n'roll.
And go-go, a drum-based fusion of jazz, rap and R&B, was rarely heard outside the bars, churches and street corners of its DC heartland, despite a brief championing by parts of the British music press in the mid-1980s. That's it, so far....
