Japanese automakers are receiving much-needed support from an old standby, as the weaker yen helps to bolster profits in the face of declining sales in China and an increasingly challenging transition to electric vehicles.
In the three months leading up to June, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan all reported earnings that exceeded analyst estimates by 6% to 21%, and all cited currency fluctuations as a contributing factor.
