TESTING STARTED OF WORLD’S FIRST CENTRAL BANK DIGITAL CURRENCY BY SWEDEN

• Sweden’s Riksbank has started the testing of e-krona, the world's first central bank digital currency (CBDC).
• The project aims to show how an e-krona could be used by the general public in everyday banking activities.
• Only 1% of Swedish GDP in 2018 existed in banknotes as compared to 11% in the eurozone, 8% in the United States and 4% in Britain.
