If Labor seeks a presiding officer from outside its ranks, Andrew Wilkie, a Tasmanian independent MP, says he is willing to "have a chat" with Anthony Albanese about becoming Speaker of the lower house.
Wilkie stated on Monday that he didn't think the future prime minister would approach him because Labor was on course to win 77 seats. After Macnamara was called, the new administration gained 76 seats on Monday night.
