The Labor Department reported on Friday that a better-than-expected 263,000 jobs were added in November, indicating that the labor market is refusing to bend under the weight of higher interest rates and a weakening economy.
The figure was much above predictions of 200,000, while October was revised up to 284,000 from a previous estimate of 261,000. Meanwhile, the jobless rate remained constant at 3.7%.
