Andean glacier melting could be enhanced due to Amazon fires

According to a study in Scientific Reports, the melting of tropical glaciers in the Andes may increase due to the burning of the rainforest in southwestern Amazonia.

Scientists observed that black carbon from biomass burning can be transported to tropical Andean glaciers by the wind. On deposition over snow, they darkened the surface and enhances the glacier melting as they reflect less light I.e. reduced albedo.
