A French cardinal has admitted to sexually abusing a teenage girl.

When he was a parish priest in the 1980s, a senior French Catholic clergyman sexually abused a 14-year-old girl.

Cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard, Bishop of Coutances, Montpellier, and Bordeaux from 2001 to 2019, confessed in a statement read aloud at the French Bishops' Conference in Lourdes on Monday.
