Unemployment doubles for India’s most populous state

Uttar Pradesh is India’s most populous state. According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), unemployment almost doubled during the last year compared to 2018. The average unemployment in UP went from 5.91 percent in 2018 to 9.95 percent during the last year.

As per the 2011 census data, UP is home to nearly 20 crore people. It is over 16 percent of India's population.
