After the federal agency opened a criminal investigation into the worst wildfire to hit a U.S. state this year, California utility PG&E Corp said on Monday that it was working with the USFS.
As of September 25, the Mosquito Fire had charred 76,781 acres (31,072 hectares). It has compelled at least 11,000 residents of Georgetown, Foresthill, Volcanoville, and other villages between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe to leave their homes.
