Mumps outbreak hits hundreds of students across the UK after two decades of falling in the number of children to MMR vaccine

A severe mumps outbreak that spread across British universities has struck hundreds of students.

Figures from Public Health England show that since July, more than 7,200 suspected cases of mumps have been reported in the UK, almost triple last year's same period.

Health officials said the surge was motivated by students and encouraged anyone who skipped the MMR jab to get vaccinated.
