Launceston Airport, the second largest airport in Tasmania, is suing Airservices Australia, a firefighting service at the airport, over claims of failing to clean up PFAS contamination.
PFAS – per and polyfluoroalkyl substances are chemicals used in the foam in firefighting sprays and have harmful effects on humans and animals.
Authorities have detected PFAS in fish in a nearby river.
