Depression and other mental and psychological disorders can have effects on the human body. Such effects can be caused due to the change of chemicals in the bodies. While other side effects form these events might be seen as a form of neural changes. This is what makes psychological disorder important to handle as they might have complications that are hard to handle at some point.
A recent research was conducted on these effects caused by depression, trying to find solutions. The research conducted by a team hired by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) (part of the National Institutes of Health) suggests the use of Ketamine which completely reverses the effects on the body caused by depression.
These are mainly the changes observed in the neurological system of the body. The team was led by a professor and PhD holder from the Weill Cornell Medicine, New York City, Conor Liston. He posted his study and results in the prestigious Science Journal. He states in the study the following, “Ketamine is a potentially transformative treatment for depression, but one of the major challenges associated with this drug is sustaining recovery after the initial treatment.”
This is an important discovery due to the fact that disorders affecting humans in the United States including only depression is almost 17.3 million per year, which is a huge population. Being able to help prevent reactions from the disorder will definitely save the lives of many people.
