The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, which included an orbiter, lander, and rover, took off from the Sriharikota space center at 14:35 on Friday (9:05 GMT), carrying all of its components.
The lander is scheduled to touch down on the moon sometime between August 23 and 24.
