Although builders were busy in August, subsequent activity revealed evidence of the housing slump.
According to data released on Tuesday by the Census Bureau, residential construction had a mixed August with home starts up 12.2% and permits falling 10%.
While permits for future homes came in at a rate of 1.52 million per year, starts were at a rate of 1.575 million.
